项目摘要

The main objectives of this research are to develop new mathematical models, new algorithmic solutions and techniques for analysis, and design methods to address various emerging issues in Smart Grids. The research will be addressed in two broad research tracks, Track-A will be geared towards examining the operations and control aspects of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) while Track-B will examine the integration of home energy management systems (HEMS) to Smart Grids. These two research tracks will have enough cross-linkages and exchange of research ideas, through participating students. Each research track is sub-divided into a set of research themes, so as to help the researchers focus on closely defined research problems within the project. Within Track-A, research will focus on three specific themes namely, development of mathematical models and algorithms to schedule PEV charging, optimal siting of PEV charging stations and the development of appropriate distribution power flow models for smart distribution systems to examine the impact of HEMS and PEVs on the grid. Research Track-B will focus on two themes namely, the development of mathematical models and scheduling algorithms for optimal operation of local distribution companies incorporating HEMS and system level information and system impacts of integration of HEMS.
