High-precision Aircraft Positioning

Airbly Inc. is a company that designs and manufactures automatic aircraft logging devices, which is located inArgyle Shore, PEI. So far, Airbly has rolled out a state-of-the-art aircraft logging device named PhoenixAircraft MonitorTM, which passively monitors every aircraft flight and automatically reports usage oversatellite as the plane flies. It is capable of turning itself on when it detects an engine start and turning itself offwhen the engine stops. Every logbook entry includes the following items: time, flight path, alarms, and weatherconditions. Despite the success of Phoenix Aircraft MonitorTM, Airbly would like to further improve theprecision of the flight path module. Technically, Airbly would like to utilize the available sensing informationto obtain high-precision positioning of aircrafts. In this project, we will collaboratively work with Airbly, ourindustry partner, to come up with a novel positioning method for aircrafts, which makes full use of the built-insensors in Phoenix Aircraft MonitorTM to determine aircraft latitude, longitude, and altitude.
