The strength properties of paper are extremely important for both manufacturers and consumers. Papermanufacturers seek a high level of control over the strength characteristics of paper products to produce sheetsof desired quality while maintaining cost efficiency and targeted production rates. Chemical additives areroutinely employed in the tissue making process as strengthening agents. Such additives are typicallycomprised of water soluble polymers that can suitably interact with cellulose fibers. This project seeks todevelop a new polymer additive that can impart unique strength properties to tissue during the production stagewith the goal of improving the efficiency of tissue manufacturing.
