Development of Software Quality Analytics at National Bank

National Bank of Canada is one the largest Canadian Banks. The reliability of its software systems has a directimpact on the quality of banking services received by Canadians both locally and internationally, henceNational Bank would like to ensure the quality of their software systems. Prior work has shown that data,stored in common tools, such as bug trackers and source code control tools can be leveraged to help ensure thehigh quality of software systems. Therefore, the goal of this proposal is to develop analytics and models, basedon National Bank's data, to help them identify phenomena that negatively impacts the quality of their softwaresystems and empirically validate the developed analytics and models. To achieve this objective, we plan toaddress three main sub-objectives 1) we plan to develop a framework to ingest, preprocess and link datacollected by National Bank's software development tools; 2) we plan to perform data analysis and createanalytics from software repository data; 3) we plan to empirically validate the effectiveness of the developedanalytics and models in detecting software quality issues. If successful, the outcome of the proposed researchwill help put National Bank above its competitors, who in some cases are big players such as Bank of America,JPMorgan Chase and HSBC. This will, in turn, strengthen the Canadian position in the aforementioned areasthat the bank operates in, which are some of the most impacting areas of the Canadian economy.
