The proposed research will evaluate the potential to use algae for water treatment. More specifically, we willinvestigate the removal of selected emerging contaminants such as pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and personalcare products. These chemicals are widely distributed and threaten the health of human and ecosystems. Toeliminate them, advanced water treatment technologies can be used, but they are typically expensive toimplement. This research focuses on a passive water treatment systems, based on algae, to remove selectedcontaminants.
