英文摘要
Many effective drugs are hydrophobic, meaning they do not dissolve well in water, this allows them to interact very well withenzymes and proteins in the body. Critical Outcome Technologies (COT) has a number of hydrophobic drugs in itspharamaceutical pipeline, and requires new types of nanomaterial drug delivery platforms to improve solubility. COT is teaming up with the Trant lab at the University of Windsor, experts in chemistry, at the University of Windsor to develop entirely new classes of nanomaterials that can help stabilize hydophobic compounds in water solutions. The collaborators will look at using two types of innovative nanotechnology, nanobubbles, tiny oxygen bubbles, and glycoliposomes (nano-sized fat globules with sugars on the surface that can target particular cell types) as new solutions to this old problem. This will mean that these different types of drugs will be able to be used to help Canadians, and the partners expect these strategies to be applicable to a wide variety of different compounds. This project brings together COTs expertise in the pharmaceutical business and knowledge of the market, with UWindsors expertise in chemistry and research development. It is expected to result in the development of new drug delivery platforms for COTs pharmaceutical pipeline and to help the company expand this part of their business in recovering previously shelved drugs that showed promising activity but insufficient water solubility. This partnership is expected to create a new technology while also leading to the creation of new high-quality research and development jobs in Ontario.
