英文摘要
In Canada, the deficit to fix existing infrastructure is increasing at an alarming rate. Some estimates put thedeficit to fix bridges alone at $8 billion. This project will aim at developing an innovative Non-destructivetechniques for condition assessment of deteriorating structures such as parking garages and bridge decks and todetermine the delamination growth rate when repaired using a repair material. Further, this project aims atevaluating the bond strength of the repaired material, develop an autonomous, in-situ, and non-contactmultipurpose rig that will consist of different types of NDT equipment. The rig will gather real-time data andsimultaneously marks (using different colors) on the structure, being examined, which are outside thepredetermined limit. It is strongly believed that the findings of this project will help RJC on various futureprojects. Specifically, this project will help quantify the remaining service life of structures and assist owners indetermining the intervention time for repair or structural retrofit. Thus, resulting in huge tax dollar savings andinfrastructure safety improvement. Also, lead to the development of both a greater understanding of the spreadof corrosion, as well as the refinement of rapid assessment techniques, which is essential for not only publicsafety but also public spending. With the ability to conservatively predict the spread of corrosion anddelamination, timelines can be determined when assessing the risk and costs associated with delaying repair.Rapid assessment will also lower the costs to perform the assessments, allowing for existing budgets toaccommodate more testing.
