英文摘要
The overarching vision of this project is to design and build a collaborative service robot that will help peoplewith developmental disabilities (DD) reach their personal goals and achieve greater independence, usingexisting and new technologies. This will allow JDQ Systems Inc. to advance the type of services provided topeople with DD and their caregivers in a group home environment. The aim of this project is to detect and identify peoples' faces in a group home through the visual data capturedby the robot's camera. This requires detecting human faces from one or multiple people in various conditions, and from various angles and distances depending on the relative location of the robot. Identifying the face ofeach individual is a second necessity, and requires working with sample labelled data from a specific grouphome.Delivering such a service robot will improve the scale of services provided to people with DD economically. Italso reduces the burden of repetitive tasks on the caregivers and frees up their time to focus on other tasks thatrobots cannot do well at present. Developing such a technology for JDQ Systems Inc. paves the way to achievegreater goals that will result in continual improvement of support services accompanied with continualattention to the efficient use of limited financial resources. Achieving the goals of this project also allows toinvestigate the growing problems and opportunities in the health and elder care sectors that will manifest inCanadian society as our population ages.
