Funds are requested to purchase an autonomous system that will allow direct and accurate measurements of the carbon dioxide partial pressure in air (pCO2-air) and (sea)water (pCO2-water). Access to such a system is critical to the pursuit of a large component of my proposed research program as well as ongoing and planned student research projects. The system will be deployed for punctual or continuous measurements along cruise tracks in the St. Lawrence (river, estuary, gulf), its tributaries (e.g., Saguenay Fjord) and in Canadian Arctic waters. It will also be used to measure the accumulations of metabolic CO2 in the hypoxic bottom waters of the Lower St. Lawrence Estuary.
