项目摘要

The Proteomic Resource Center (PRC) provides access to biological mass spectrometry to Canadian scientists with a focus on Eastern Ontario and Quebec. The PRC focuses on quantitive proteomics (large scale analysis of proteins), quantitive lipidomics (large scale analysis of lipids), quantitive metaproteomics (large scale analysis of proteins from bacterial communities) and bioinformatics. The PRC offers technologies to the scientific community that are unique in Canada and some in the world. Requests for access to the PRC have grown two fold in the last five years. The PRC has spearheaded an international effort to enhance access to different mass spectrometers. In particular, it has created a network of facilities from Canada (University of Ottawa and Université Laval) and China (Shanghai and Dalian) greatly enhancing the type and quantity of mass spectrometers, as well as technologies available to the scientific community. This model of access is unique to the PRC. The PRC currently supports over 60 scientific projects from Canadian and international scientists. The types of projects supported by the PRC are broad including: technology development, understanding fundamental biological processes in model organisms such as yeast and zebrafish, and applied projects related to human diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson Disease, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease in children. The PRC provides extensive training in biological mass spectrometry and bioinformatics. The anticipated outcomes from the PRC are: well-trained young scientists, technologies that can be commercialized, better understanding of fundamental processes important for human health, and tools such as biomarkers, that are directly applicable in the clinic.
