The proposed Canada Research Chair in Freight Transportation and Logistics will develop a policy analysis tool that simulates behaviour of business establishments in urban areas and the urban freight transportation that results from their activities. The research develops state-of-the-art techniques in agent-based simulation, and establishes new understanding of strategic decisions made by firms such as location choice and supply chain formation, as well as tactical logistics operations such as vehicle routing. The tool will be useful for assessing economic, environmental and social impacts of public sector policies that influence urban business operations and commercial vehicle movements.
