Usage based insurance is offered by many vehicle insurance providers, allowing them to offer targeted discounts to road users based on their driving performance. TD Insurance provides this service through their TDMyAdvantage smartphone application, where a driver's performance is scored based on 4 categories including braking, speeding, acceleration, and cornering. The application does not score drivers based on their exhaust emissions, which are typically correlated with driving behaviour and traffic conditions. The purpose of this project is to develop an "eco-driving" scoring module that can be incorporated within the application, extending its capability to estimate emissions associated with each trip, while taking into account the effect of traffic conditions.
