The proposed Canada Research Chair in Freight Transportation and Logistics will *develop a policy analysis tool that simulates behaviour of business establishments *in urban areas and the urban freight transportation that results from their *activities. The research develops state-of-the-art techniques in agent-based *simulation, and establishes new understanding of strategic decisions made by *firms such as location choice and supply chain formation, as well as tactical *logistics operations such as vehicle routing. The tool will be useful for assessing *economic, environmental and social impacts of public sector policies *that influence urban business operations and commercial vehicle movements.
