项目摘要
Engineering microsystems have important applications in biology/medicine by providing enabling tools to efficiently interact with bio-samples and address fundamental/practical issues difficult to solve with existing techniques. This research program will develop: (1) paper-based microfluidic biosensors for low-cost, point-of-care disease diagnostics; and (2) an automated microfluidic system for high-throughput, worm-based drug screening. The paper-based biosensors will provide low-cost diagnostic solutions for the Canadian healthcare system, and have a significant potential to improve human health in underserved regions. The microfluidic drug screening system will enable high-throughput, cost-effective drug screening using small organisms, and facilitate drug discovery activities in the pharmaceutical industry.
