The demand for robots with high accuracy has been steadily rising in the aerospace manufacturing sector, but many Canadian-based companies in this sector still lack appropriate precision robotics solutions. In order to address these needs, the general goal of this proposed research program is to devise original solutions that enable robots to be used in industrial applications demanding high accuracy. Specifically, this research program addresses four different, but intimately related topics. The tasks involved will be performed simultaneously: - elaboration of new robot accuracy assessment procedures; - development of innovative ad hoc solutions for robot calibration; - design of novel parallel kinematic machines (PKMs); - creation of improved techniques for optimal robot machining.
