I work in the field of machine learning, which studies using computers to automatically detect patterns in data and to use these patterns to make predictions or help make decisions. Machine learning is one of the key tools we use to make sense of the enormous amounts of data we record. It is used in everyday tasks for e-mail spam filtering, product recommendations, and speech recognition. My research focus is large-scale machine learning, where we think about how to apply huge machine learning models to huge data sets.
