项目摘要

The overall objective of All Natural Nutritional Products (ANNP) Inc. is to produce rutin in a rural factory in**Manitoba from a locally produced crop, buckwheat hay. A marketing and business analysis by the Asper**School of Business, University of Manitoba, has concluded that the production of rutin, as proposed by ANNP,**has the potential to be highly profitable and that it will bring significant economic and social benefit to**Manitoba and Canada. Rutin is naturally occurring compounds that have many health benefits. The product is**mainly used as supplements for health and well being in humans but will be widely used by the animal feed**industry and as pet food additives in the future.**The long term goal of the ANNP with Dr. Fuji Jian, Biosystems Engineering, University of Manitoba, is to**optimize the harvesting, drying, and storage of the harvested buckwheat forage in order to preserve rutin in the**plant material and to be able to use the dried forage over long periods of time without loss of rutin. The**objectives of this study are to determine: 1) the optimum drying condition of buckwheat hay; 2) the drying rate**of buckwheat flowers and leaves under different drying conditions; and 3) whether the drying conditions and**harvest times influences the rutin concentration of the dried hay. Dr. Jian is a professional Engineer and has**published extensively in the area of harvesting and drying of cereal and hay crops. Dr Jian's research facility at**the University of Manitoba is one of the few centres worldwide capable of the conducting the proposed studies.**The research to be carried out by Dr. Jian will provide essential information for the profitable production of**rutin in a Manitoba based manufacturing facility.
