英文摘要
Understanding brain plasticity during development is essential to revealing fundamental properties of how the brain responds to changes in sensory processing throughout the lifespan. The proposed innovative studies will permit hearing, deafness, and hearing restoration to be examined within the same subject. Revealing how the auditory cortex of hearing subjects processes sound and how this same region processes sound in deaf subjects following the activation of the auditory pathways with a cochlear implant will enable development of appropriate strategies that may increase brain plasticity and help subjects overcome sensory losses including deafness, blindness, or loss of a limb.
