This research project will focus on developing Blast Resistance Modules (BRM) that has the ability to mitigate the damage that might be attained by a blast wave. The research project will be conducted in a series of numerical and experimental techniques. The proposed multifaceted research program will integrate material synthesis/processing and characterization, experimental testing under blast loads and advanced numerical modelling techniques to develop optimized explosion mitigation solutions. These innovative solutions will be specifically designed for explosion types and blast wave characteristics that may occur in different critical location in power plants.**This research project will be conducted in three different phases. In the aim of the first phase will be to select and synthesize composite materials that are suitable for impulsive load resisting applications and quantify their dynamic response under high strain rates. In Phase II, the BRM will be designed and tested/modelled under high strain rate conditions. In the final phase of the project, experimental and numerical investigation will be performed to demonstrate the blast mitigation effect. The best-performing BRM developed in Phase II will be tested using the Blast simulator system at McMaster University. **The rapid progress of the proposed research will capitalize on the applicant's Ph.D. research, his Post-doctoral work and his industrial experience which uniquely qualifies him to conduct the different aspects of the research program.
