Three Kruger plants located in Quebec manufacture paper for publication. The combined annual capacity is 600,000 tonnes of newsprint and 250,000 tonnes of coated paper produced in Trois-Rivières and Bromptonville.****Given that these traditional markets are in sharp decline, Kruger wants to migrate to products with a growing market to ensure the sustainability of more than 600 jobs and improve the energy performance and profitability of factories using innovative technologies. Among these, Kruger chose to improve the removal of inks from OCC recycled cardboard to produce a suitable paste for FDA-compliant grades of paper.****To do this, different technologies will be studied in laboratory and pilot workshop to eliminate contaminants from recycled paper and cardboard, such as ferrous, non-ferrous metals, plastics, wood, Styrofoam, etc.****By validating the performance of certain technologies developed at Innofibre and combining process control with the Kruger facilities, this project will enable the company to direct its production towards food paper markets and flexible packaging with labeling.**These innovative Kruger specialty papers will be the next generation in food packaging. These developments will have an estimated spinoff of $ 19.5 million involving 121 people in research and development on ten multi-partnership projects.**********
