Senswear Inc. is a Montreal based company that specializes in optical sensing technology for harsh**environments for industries such as oil and energy, and aerospace. Senswear's technology platforms are based**on optical fibers and silicon photonic chips. To date and based on the company's expertise in optical fiber**sensors, Senswear has been able to offer technology to detect humidity & temperature. In this context, the**proposed project is to develop a high performance optical ring resonator rate sensor, namely a gyroscope that**can be realized in the silicon photonics platform. An optical ring resonator rate sensing technology capable of**providing precise angular velocity measurement in a harsh environment will provide Senswear with a**competitive edge and in doing so benefit this Canadian based company. The gyroscope developed by this**project will be used for inertial navigation (angular velocity measurement), oil & gas exploration (drill tip**precise navigation), and potentially in automobiles and drones.
