This project aims to determine the optimal operating parameters of Terragon Environmental Technologies Inc.'s Micro Auto Gasification System (MAGS) to produce biochar that is safe for use in agriculture. Biochar production will involve gasification of excess waste in a MAGS at the Northern Farm Training Institute (NFTI) in Hay River, NWT. Terragon is collaborating with NFTI to see if they can use MAGS and other Terragon technologies to increase their food security. The waste being considered for this biochar production is cardboard. The project will analyze various biochar samples produced at different MAGS operating parameters to analyze optimum MAGS parameters for biochar production. The samples will undergo various characterization studies and results from literature will be used to determine preferred biochar characteristics for use in Hay River, NWT. Finally, the biochar will be used for a germination study to see the effects of biochar on seed germination.
