The current state of networking can be described as a complex maze of protocols. Also, there is a great need of**reducing the enormous amount of energy that is consumed by datacenters. On the other hand, it is very difficult**to propose solutions to reduce consumption by a large percentage because it is impossible to simplify the set of**protocols used without breaking the behavior of the network.**The proposed project explores some directions toward a major simplification of the networking infrastructure**by proposing a simple but powerful protocol that will allow a much-reduced workload on networking**equipment.**The approach consists of, first, proposing a protocol based on concepts that allow managing traffic in such a**way as to avoid congestion (thus, simplifying the infrastructure). Next, a popular software library will be**selected and ported to the new environment. Finally, we will assess the gains brought by the new protocol and**propose future research avenues toward the objective of reducing power consumption through better protocols**and simplified networking infrastructure.
