Acquisition of a qPCR platform will facilitate the research program at Langara College which currently focuses on biotechnology in the craft brewing industry. Projects that this instrument will allow include exploring more efficient sterilization regimes, optimizing barrel aging programs, and identifying degraded yeast. Student research assistants will become skilled in a method that has found widespread utility in research and industry. With a new Applied Bioinformatics degree, the instrument will be used to train undergraduate students in this important technique.
