The proposed research aims to establish the fundamental principles governing the structure and properties of materials and then use this knowledge to develop strategies for the fabrication of new materials with novel properties. The scope of this multidisciplinary research is quite diverse, combining chemistry and physics to tackle topics from simple materials that exhibit superconducting behaviour to materials useful for batteries. The research uses the latest software to predict the electronic properties of materials and employs state-of-the-art experimental techniques based on synchrotron radiation. The research will meaningfully contribute to materials science and will be of great relevance for numerous practical industrial applications. *
