The proposed research develops a silicon based solar-powered sensing *technology that offers real-time effective sensing for public safety, biomedical, bio-*defence, telecommunication, and environmental applications. In addition to the *revolutionary temperature-insensitive detection, the sensor will be integrated with *on-chip solar cells to enable self-sustainability for field use and laboratory settings. *The unique integrated solar-powered sensor will be ultra-compact in size, highly *sensitive, and can be utilized in remote or third world humanitarian operations. *Commercialization of the integrated sensor could yield significant economic *benefits to Canada, with a substantial potential for intellectual property discovery in *material and device technology.
