英文摘要
The objective of this research program is to develop an innovative class of microwave devices for next generation ground/space based wireless communication systems. Systems employing multiple spot-coverage in particular usually require flexible and complicated passive network designs. The research is expected to result in very high performance RF/Microwave networks formed by filters and multiplexers, which simultaneously splits and combines microwave signals. The devices are also reconfigurable or tunable, and have significantly lower mass/size than the current state of art. This work will truly represent a technological breakthrough in passive networks, through which multiple input/output multiplexing/demultiplexing networks will be developed to meet communication system performance requirements. This is a major paradigm shift in the field of microwave network design, which enables the engineer to synthesize and design very complicated RF/Microwave networks with multiple input and output ports.******The technology to be developed through the proposed program will have a significant impact on both low and high power sections of the communication system. Through this research program, we also propose to develop advanced synthesis theory for the network, which simultaneously splits and combines microwave signals. This becomes possible using advanced network theory, combined with full wave electromagnetic modeling and optimization. The outcome will be a new technique for the efficient design of complicated networks. ******The next part of the proposed research program deals with reconfigurable and tunable devices. Communication system architectures have evolved to contain the characteristics specific to these advances with an ever increasing number of channels and some flexibility. The need for flexibility and mass/size reduction with ever increasing power demands is implicit for the rapidly emerging new system, but two fundamentally different characteristics of these new systems currently prevent similar hardware implementations being applied to these applications. The developments in this part of the program will be primarily in the areas of reconfigurable or tunable multiplexing and demultiplexing networks, addressing strong demands such as flexibility, high power filtering, and mass/size/insertion loss reduction.******This program will definitely promote academic and industrial collaborations, especially with the University of Waterloo Center for Integrated RF Engineering (CIRFE) lab where the advanced equipment already exists. The researcher is an adjunct professor who can efficiently train graduate students to work on achieving the objectives of this proposal in such a collaborative environment. The students will also have the opportunity to deal with real industry problems. This will further help to build Canada's reputation as a global technological leader.
