Analog to digital conversion is currently limited in speed by noise that is inherent to electronic devices at room temperature. Faster digitizers are essential for future applications such as quantum computing, optical coherence tomography and high throughput analysis. One viable route to solving this problem is moving to the optical domain, where such noise is absent. In parternship with AlazarTech, a world-leader in the fabrication of PCI digitizers, Kéna-Cohen will study potential routes for fabricating fast all-optical bistable elements for integration into the future generation of digitizers.
