英文摘要
Considering the challenges in the assessment of pavement rutting, the objective of this project is to develop a 3D optical vision-based monitoring system to detect and evaluate pavement rutting distress that is caused by traffic loads. The proposed system will assess pavement conditions and reduce the cost for road users and authorities by offering on-time rehabilitation strategies and countermeasures. The system consists of three stages: (1) establishing an optical data acquisition platform to gather image data, (2) developing a precise and operationally viable method using cameras, image processing, and analysis algorithms for detection and assessment of pavement rutting, and (3) presenting a feedback control algorithm for adjusting the rehabilitation plan. In Stage 1, the proper optical equipment is provided to collect image data. In addition, the configuration of the optical system is proposed considering problem requirements. Stage 2 involves establishing an accurate and easy-to-follow optical sensing vision-based method to detect, measure, and evaluate pavement rutting in a real-time manner. In Stage 3, a feedback control system is designed to estimate the effect of rutting on the performance of pavement structure and assess the risk level. If the allowable risk is exceeded, the system issues an alert and proposes required countermeasures. The final product is an easy-to-use software to perform three proposed stages from pavement rutting detection to estimation of risk and monitoring of pavement performance. To test the proposed system, a small-scale lab experiment will be conducted and the monitoring procedure will be validated.
