This project investigates the design of a customizable real-time embedded micro-controller using the RISC-V instruction-set architecture for performance and energy efficiency. The customizable framework should enable a designer to quickly configure the architecture to favour optimizing for real-time performance or energy. This framework will also generate synthesizable hardware. The design of the RISC-V architecture should deliver real-time guarantees, which requires an exploration of various architectural techniques. These will be done using the developed framework, and customizable using it as well. Different variants of the real-time embedded micro-controller will be evaluated on a field-programmable gate array platform.
