The project aims at developing Digital Smart Manufacturing Applications using Siemens MindSphere Platform. Since the inception of Industry 4.0 eight years ago, manufacturing companies embarked on transforming their production processes, production lines and designs and implementing new strategies to fulfill the requirements of a modern Digital enterprise. Digitalization is the first step in smart manufacturing systems evolution towards the 4th industrial revolution and more effective product variety management. Regardless of the type and size of industry, companies embracing the new wave are changing to digitalized, more connected and more automated factories of the future.Siemens introduced the MindSphere platform as a tool to complement its product line and provide manufacturing companies a full operating system for effective inter-operability and intelligent applications. In this research, applications to demonstrate smart manufacturing will be developed using a unique state-of-the- art modular, reconfigurable assembly learning factory, the iFactory, at the Intelligent Manufacturing Systems Center, University of Windsor. The iFactory is Industry 4.0 ready and has built-in sensors (IoT) for communication between modules, monitoring, planning and intelligent control. The research focuses on smart manufacturing applications development for making use of data to guide users in making better business decisions. They will demonstrate using the power of data analytics to build insight into various scenarios for future factory events and decisions. Collaboration with Siemens Canada will address some challenges faced by Canadian Industry in implementing smart manufacturing digitalization while demonstrating the effectiveness of digital smart technologies to industrial companies. The results will increase Canada's technological capacity. At least three HQPs will be trained, gain highly industry-relevant skills and transfer their knowledge from the laboratory to the field.
