The CRC in sustainable animal protein production short and medium term aim is to improve the utilization of dietary phosphorus and nitrogen by pig and poultry through experiment with animal, meta-analysis and modeling. The overall long-term aim is to investigate with a systemic and robust approach based on the axis plant-animal-soil the levers to produce animal protein that are sustainable i.e. 1) having low environmental impact, 2) using antibiotics responsibly to keep animals healthy, 3) promoting human friendly diet by reducing the use of corn and soybean meal all while maintaining competitiveness of Canadian animal protein production.
