Fine-tuning branched-chain amino acid to reduced nitrogen excretion while maximizing growth performance of pigs

This research proposal focuses on optimizing the use of nitrogen (N) resources to ensure the sustainable development of swine productions that currently face significant environmental, economic and societal challenges. The general objective is to reduce N excretion by optimizing its use by animals, by adjusting, as accurately as possible, the contribution to the needs of the animals to avoid reducing performance. This will in turn reduce the release of N into the environment. Research project will focus on both piglets and growing pigs that face the same issues. The achievement of these objectives will be done through the training of a MSc, an undergraduate and a post-doctoral student. Two objectives will be developed 1) Estimation of piglet response to valine and impact of the other branched-chain amino acids (BCAA), leucine and isoleucine, on this response through a meta-analysis approach and 2) giving the few data available in growing pigs, an in vivo trial on the response of growing pigs to dietary valine.
