L'hydroélectricité est une source d'énergie renouvelable utilisée à travers le Canada. Puisque les centrales électriques se situent généralement dans des régions retirées, l'électricité doit être transportée aux communautés qui requièrent son approvisionnement. Ceci nécessite la construction de réseaux de transport à travers des contrées sauvages qui pourraient affecter la faune en plus des communautés rurales et autochtones qui dépendent de la faune pour leurs coutumes culturelles, spirituelles et de subsistance. Comprendre les effets des réseaux de transport électrique sur des espèces clés tel que les loups, nous aiderons à déchiffrer les effets des caractéristiques anthropiques à faible densité sur l'écologie de prédateurs (loups) et la dynamique des populations de proies (orignaux). Ce projet est important pour notre partenaire, Hydro Manitoba, tout comme autres compagnies qui produisent et transportent de l'électricité au Canada (Nalcor Energy et ses filiales). Ce projet est aussi d'importance pour les communautés rurales et autochtones à travers lesquelles les lignes de transport électrique sont acheminées.
