Dr. Scott Renneckar investigates the reactions of wood molecules to transform trees into Advanced Renewable Materials that will catalyze a green economy. Advanced Renewable Materials are sustainable products sourced from nature. Cutting-edge science makes Advanced Renewable Materials stronger, lighter, and more energy efficient than their petroleum analogs. High performance fibers, transparent films and coatings, and nanocomposites are being designed for automobile, aerospace, and the emerging additive manufacturing industries. The research program will provide reduced dependence on fossil-based carbon for materials and increased value to the forest products industries through differentiation into new products.
