In the Spring of 2019, we discovered boryl carboxylates (CBA), a new class of molecules with untapped synthetic potential. We subsequently applied for a patent to protect this composition of matter. The CBA technology quickly attracted the attention of Merck and we initiated a collaboration in order to understand the scope of potential applications of this new chemistry. As a result, we recently published a joint paper with Merck in Angewandte Chemie. We also received market assessment funding from NSERC, allowing us to retain the services of Adventus Research. Dr. G. Svoboda of Adventus has carried out a thorough market assessment study. The present I2I application considers the main messages from that report and focuses on the applications that will further de-risk our technology now that it is sufficiently mature. With the help of this report, we now have specific steps to strengthen the commercial value of the CBA technology. These include the development of a range of CBA derivatives as well as the demonstration of superior properties of these molecules in the synthesis of challenging heterocycles. Our partners (Merck, Eurofins Alphora, and MilliporeSigma) are ideally suited to help us broaden patent claims and position this technology closer to licensing.
