英文摘要
Augmented and virtual reality (VR) devices are starting to play a game-changing role in this information ageand already present new opportunities and challenges to the technology and manufacturing sectors. VR helpscapture as much multi-sensory experience as possible, overcoming the limitations of human body. VR andnear-eye devices will strongly benefit (i) aerospace, (ii) defense, (iii) medical, (iv) transportation, (v)entertainment, and (vi) display privacy sectors in the very near future. Combined augmented and VR marketsare predicted to exceed USD150 billion by 2022. These devices impose high performance standards for thedisplays demanding micron-scale pixel pitches, low power consumption, high brightness, high color gamut, fast response, and low cost. Existing display manufacture technologies are either incompatible orcost-prohibitive to meet the demands of micron-scale pixilation. Addressing these issues, VueReal Inc. andresearchers from University of Waterloo will develop a high efficient, low-cost, micro-LED manufacturingtechnology that is both innovative and ahead in the field. This project will develop a novel technology formicro-pixelation and cartridge transfer, solid-print bonding technology, quantum dot-enabled color patterningprocesses employing non-toxic materials, and area-efficient, low power driving smart circuits to enable themicro-LED arrays to yield a novel, efficient, and highly cost-effective display technology for future near-eye,VR, and flexible device applications.
