Many technological applications rely on multi-component, complex fluids, with varying viscosities, with surprising fluid motions, which are challenging to control and predict. With this research program in Fluids and Interfaces, Dr. Tsai will experimentally elucidate the fluid motions, underlying mechanisms, and optimal parameters of several typical complex fluids in micro/nano-fluidics, drop impact, and porous media flow. These cutting edge results will bring critical understanding and benefit many applications including membrane technologies, additive manufacturing, oil recovery, as well as carbon capture and storage technologies. Dr. Tsai's collaborations with companies and researchers will ensure maximum impact of her work.
