Lius research is directed toward development of nanostructured polymer materials for applications. During the next 7 years, Lius group will develop more nanotechnologies. They will further advance nano-engineered high-flux filters so that they can rapidly separate oil from emulsions stabilized not only by ionic surfactants but also by non-ionic surfactants. They will also explore the filters that may separate water from organic solvents such as tetrahydrofuran and ethanol that are miscible with water. The Liu group will further expand the scope of their current anti-smudge nanostructured coatings to gain improved understanding and endow them with anti-fouling abilities.
