英文摘要
Biological invasions directly impact economic and natural resources across Canada and worldwide. However, the abundance and distribution of species can vary from a few isolated individuals in some locations to hectares of near-monoculture elsewhere. Which genes allow populations to thrive and which drive it to extinction? How do the effects of these genes change across environments? These questions are addressed using a combination of methods from field ecology, statistics, bioinformatics and 'next-generation' sequencing technologies. Identifying genetic loci affecting survival and reproduction could lead to genetic screens for invasive genotypes or novel traits for crop improvement.
