英文摘要
Rapid development of next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology is revolutionizing the life sciences, offering new opportunities to explore the structure and function of genomes in a diverse array of taxa from humans to non-model organisms. The rapid development of NGS technology has created an embarrassment of riches as biologists struggle to manage and analyze the growing streams of genetic data. For example, Illumina’s latest HiSeq 4000 platform can sequence 2.5 billion DNA fragments (>1.5 trillion base pairs), every 72 hours – and this output is doubling every few years. As a result, biologists are increasingly dependent on high-performance computing for the analysis of NGS data, leading to long delays as a result of long queues and long runtimes.
