Vaccination is one of the most successful and cost-effective health interventions known. As immunization strategies have advanced, the methods to produce vaccines have evolved and new vaccine opportunities have been created. Modern vaccine development is currently exploiting progress in recombinant DNA technology and cell culture platforms to produce safer, more efficacious and cost-effective vaccines, including viral vectors and viral-like particles vaccines.The research program of the CRC Bioprocess Sciences and Technology of Viral Vaccines has been designed to address critical challenges in bioprocessing of cell culture-produced viral vaccines to accelerate the development of advanced manufacturing technologies and train highly needed qualified personnel.
