This project is a collaborative work between the University of Windsor and Liburdi Automation Inc. (LAI). The focus of the project is on design and implementation of efficient power generators for one of the equipment manufactured by the LAI. The power generator manufactured by the LAI is undergoing a re-design and requires the addition of a Power Factor Correction (PFC) controller. It is required for the PFC to be able to handle a wide range of output load and frequency. There are various methods to control and correct the Power Factor (PF), but most of these methods rely on simple configurations of the controller and employ a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) without examining the efficiency of the FPGA board itself. This project will take a new look at the methods for correcting the PF, and design of a controller using a predictive duty cycle method, optimizing the operations required to be performed by the controller from a numerical and operational point of view. Moreover, to remove errors and increase the efficiency of the controller, a phase detection-based method by applying a PLL will be used.
