SAIT's Centre for Innovation and Research into Unmanned Systems (CIRUS) was approached by the David Thompson Resort Inc. (DTR), located in Central Alberta. As a growing resort with substantial trails, natural sites, existing grounds and structures, DTR is looking into solutions to minimize the impact of operations on the environment and ensure safe operations for humans. The company expressed interest in mapping the area to provide insight in terms of resort management, risk assessment and planning. To respond to the company's challenge, CIRUS team will create an interactive database using machine learning techniques that can aid in assessing degradation of resources and provide a risk assessment to inform future decisions by DTR staff. The project will provide highly precise data of their holdings captured through a variety of sensors including Light Imaging and Ranging (LiDAR), Hyperspectral, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), High Definition (HD) photogrammetry. The created database will be accessible through a web application leveraging Free and Open Source Solutions (FOSS) created by the CIRUS team.
