Capstone Oilfield Services Ltd. approached SAIT to develop novel generation power-free sensors for well services in order to use the vent gases in clean-tech solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC). The new sensor has the potential of disrupting the current well monitoring technology and practices by providing a more efficient way to measure variables such as gas concentrations, pressure and temperature changes, and vent flows in real time, efficiently and at lower costs, and use waste gas to generate heat and power in remote areas. Added performance in well monitoring brings environmental benefits, allowing companies to have faster responses to well degradation and thus avoiding emissions.
