项目摘要

Wearable sensing is the future of healthcare. Devices such as the Apple watch, Fitbit and Android smartwatches can be a rich source of objective sensor data that can be used to continuously monitor people's wellbeing and predict changes in their health, ultimately transforming healthcare from a reactive system to a proactive one. The fundamental component of this change is the ability to collect sensor data from these devices and extract meaningful insights from them. In our research, focused on using wearable sensing to monitor people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, we developed a software platform for collecting, monitoring and analyzing sensor data from wearable devices as well as novel and proprietary models for extracting signals from the collected sensor data. During this current COVID-19 pandemic, we have applied our same technology to help meet the needs of COVID positive patients recovering at home as well as the physicians providing remote care for them. We believe that there is a strong demand for our platform and models in two key markets - pharmaceutical and healthcare. Our technology could be used in pharmaceutical clinical trials as an objective and continuous measure of participants against which the efficacy of new drugs is compared. In healthcare systems, our technology could enable better remote patient monitoring and self-management, potentially leading to improved care and reduced costs. We are keen to assess how the work done in our research can transfer into a product for these markets. This NSERC I2I Market Assessment proposal will provide answers to several key questions about potential clients in these two markets. We are interested in knowing how they perceive and value the technology we have developed and how they can see it working with their current processes. This will help us make a more informed decision on which market to target first and how to best tailor our current solution to better fit that market. Other Language Version of Summary (optional
