Saskatchewan Polytechnic (SP) and Peter Lucas Project Management Inc. will collaborate on the development of a niche system to locate gravel. The goal is to identify the probability of a viable gravel source based on an input quarter section. As gravel is a non-renewable resource, the identification of sources of gravel and the corresponding management of it is important to many different industries. The project will examine the use of machine learning (and/or neural networks) algorithms to determine on a topographical map the probability of a location containing gravel. This resulting technology can help find more sources, will increase supply, save costs, and reduce greenhouse gases due to hauling among other benefits.
