Ripple Therapeutics partnership for development and testing of drug delivery system

Ripple Therapeutics, a spin out company located in Toronto ON, has a novel method of delivering dexamethasone, a corticosteroid, the eye. The drug delivery system does not involve the use of polymeric excipients, providing superior control over the release of drug. Ongoing work on this system involves the development of prototype materials that release dexamethasone at different concentrations and at different rates. The Sheardown lab at McMaster University in partnership with Ripple will develop new dexamethasone containing systems which show release rates that can be tailored for the application. This will be important as the team develops an understanding of therapeutically relevant concentrations. The systems will be characterized for drug release as well as biocompatibility and drug distribution in the eye. Ultimately, this system will be moved forward through the Ripple pipeline for the treatment of various ocular conditions, including uveitis, which is difficult to treat with current dosage forms.
