英文摘要
The rail and transit industry is facing significant challenges for next generation public transportation systems as demand for efficient, reliable, and cost effective urban mobility solutions increases. In order to develop these modern networks, rail modeling and simulation has been suggested as the leading method to produce reliable, optimum component and system-level designs. The proposed research will perform three main tasks, to exceed the standards and capability of current commercial and academic software: (1) rail systems modeling of power distribution overhead line components including pantographs, the overhead contact system, and their dynamic interaction, (2) expansion and parameterization of power distribution components including linear, non-linear, and aerodynamic effects, and (3) component and system-level optimization of pantographs, overhead line configurations, and their interaction. All three tasks seek to address the next major challenges in transit system development and build upon the global state-of-the-art research in the field. The primary objectives of this research are to create advanced modeling, algorithms, develop new computational tools, and solve complex, real-world industry problems for pantograph-catenary systems. The partnership will feature a four-year project with five full-time graduate students and several on-site internships at SNC-Lavalin's Toronto-based Engineering Office, providing HQP (highly qualified personnel) with a unique opportunity for mentorship by both a leading professor and industry experts.
