CleanSlate UV is a Toronto-based biosafety company with a focus on creating the next generation of intelligentUV-C sanitization solutions. The technology used at CleanSlate UV is based on a process that harnesses UV-C light delivered at a dosage that kills pathogens. There are numerous studies that indicate the effectiveness ofUV-C light on hard, non-porous materials, but little is known about the efficacy and effect of UV-C light onporous materials. CleanSlate UV is collaborating with Seneca's School of Biological Science and AppliedChemistry to expand the applications of CleanSlate UV's UV-C irradiation device and determine the effect of UV-C exposure on the efficacy of disinfection and integrity of porous materials. The focus is on materials that comprise commonly high-touched items like paper, passports, and cardboard. This use case enables a greater application of UV-C sanitizing solutions to be utilized in stopping the chain of infectious pathogens (i.e.COVID-19) and subsequently accelerating global economic recovery from the pandemic. The results willenable CleanSlate UV to provide guidance on safe disinfection exposure rates on a suite of porous materialscommonly used in today's COVID-19 relevant world.
